Specialist Cranage and Rigging
Energy Partners (EP) is the principal contractor for Clover Queensburgh on the upgrade project to the Clover’s Compressor Room. EP approached Reef Rigging to provide specialist cranage, rigging and installation services on recommendation from Clover.
What obstacle was the client facing?
It proved to be an extremely constrained space inside the Compressor Room, which demanded expertise and specialised hand rigging skills to remove existing equipment and install new more technically advanced machinery.
How did Reef Rigging plan with the client?
Reef Rigging conducted an in-depth survey of mechanical options with knowledge of a combination of new equipment weights, rated lifting gear and building load-bearing capacity. The resultant synergistic effect was the basis of a high confidence installation plan.

What major equipment was used for the project?
A 100t mobile crane for the removal and installation of the new BAC 12t evaporative condensers in elevated external roof position. Inside the Compressor Room, we used 7t and 4,5t low mast forklifts, 5t chain blocks with 8m chain drops, and a crawl beam to install 9 x 88t screw rotary compressors on plinths, as well as to lift and suspend 9t and 10t pressure storage tanks that were placed onto 2m high galvanised stands.
What process did the project follow that overcame the client’s problems?
The installation project was directed by the Engineer and Owner in a stepwise, cascading approach with an absolute focus on safety premium.
What was the result of using Reef Rigging’s experience and services?
Completion of the challenging project safely, on time and within the budget, in spite of rain disruptions.
How long did the project take?
- Compressor equipment – 6 days
- Evaporative cooling condensers change out 3 x heavy tanks raised 2m above the ground – 3 days.

What was the after effect?
The project was critically successful in extent and timing schedule because the entire factory was engaged in a massive upgrade and consolidation, with closure and absorption of smaller factories in a “live factory environment in full production”.
