BOILER REMOVALS AND INSTALLATIONS AT ORANGE RIVER CELLARS IN UPINGTON
Although coal-fired boilers can be a cost-effective solution, the maintenance costs, regulatory requirements and lengthy steam up-cycle time rendered this power source inappropriate for ORC’s short-run batches of fruit syrup concentrate and winery application. As such, they decided to install a new boiler solution.
Reef Rigging carried out the loading and transportation of a replacement 11-ton oil-fired boiler from Boiler Industrial Plant (BIP) Durban to ORC Upington.
The new boiler was transported with abnormal load route permits under pilot escort vehicles to Durban. The change-out process involved the complicated removal of the old chimney stacks and the exchanging of a 21-ton and a 48-ton coal-fired boiler with the new boiler.
The project was completed in eight days in >40˚ summer heat, including travel time.
