Dewfresh Dairies, Leandra, Mpumalanga

When Dewfresh Dairies needed to install three 120,000-litre stainless steel silos at their processing facility in Leandra, Mpumalanga, the project required Reef Rigging to manage the full operation from receiving the silos on abnormal load transporters through to final positioning — including the critical process of transitioning each silo from horizontal transport orientation to vertical installation position.

Project Overview: Dewfresh Dairies Silo Installation

Three 120,000-litre stainless steel silos were to be installed at Dewfresh Dairies’ Leandra facility to expand raw milk receiving capacity and improve production output. At their size, each silo could only be transported in a horizontal orientation on the abnormal load transporter — meaning each vessel had to be rotated from horizontal to vertical during the rigging and installation process before being positioned in its final location.

Equipment Used and Key Operations

A crane truck was used for tandem cranage operations alongside a 50-tonne mobile crane. The tandem arrangement provided the required lift capacity and the geometry needed to safely rotate each silo from its horizontal transport position to vertical orientation. Once upright, each silo was manoeuvred into its final installation position to optimise the dairy’s incoming raw milk delivery flow. The project was completed on schedule, enabling Dewfresh Dairies to begin commissioning their expanded raw milk receiving capacity.
