Truda Snacks, Mkondeni Pietermaritzburg

When Truda Snacks in Mkondeni, Pietermaritzburg needed to upgrade their oil storage capacity to eliminate the operational disruption caused by twice-daily oil deliveries, Reef Rigging used tandem cranage to install a new 80,000-litre oil storage tank into a bunded cavity under an existing roof structure — completing the installation in a single day.

Project Overview: Truda Snacks Oil Storage Tank Installation

Truda Snacks had been operating with a single 30,000-litre oil storage tank that required two time-consuming oil deliveries per day. When roadside delivery disruptions worsened the situation, Truda Snacks decided to install an 80,000-litre storage tank — more than doubling their oil storage capacity and reducing delivery frequency significantly. The challenge was installing the large tank into a bunded cavity beneath an existing roof structure, where access was constrained and a single crane could not achieve the required lift geometry.

How the Installation Was Completed

Reef Rigging used two cranes in tandem to lift and install the new 80,000-litre oil storage tank. The tandem configuration allowed the team to manage the tank’s weight and geometry within the constrained working area under the roof structure, positioning the tank precisely into the bunded cavity. The installation was completed within a single day — allowing Truda Snacks to connect the tank to their existing supply infrastructure without extended operational disruption.
